PRIDE PLAYREADINGS

The Beekeepers kick off LGBTQ+ Pride Month with the third edition of Pride Playreadings at 6 PM on Sat., June 1st! These semi-staged readings of dynamic new plays are performed by top-notch actors from the Berkshires and beyond, and will illuminate the lives of the LGBTQ+ community.

Presented outdoors in the back garden of the Bushnell Sage Library, 48 Main St, Sheffield, MA. Admission is free, thanks to a generous grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council. Closed captioned on your personal device. Please bring your own lawn chair or picnic blanket. Len Jenkin: VOX HUMANA

LEN JENKIN: VOX HUMANA open workshop performance

Saturday March 9, 2024, 7 PM

The Beekeepers Theater welcomes back spring this coming weekend at Dewey Hall with a special event: multiple Obie-Award-winning playwright Len Jenkin directs scenes, songs, and monologues from his play VOX HUMANA, a brand new work in progress!

In this public open workshop, our audience will have the chance to revel in Len’s one-of-a-kind writer’s voice while getting an up-close peek at his unique collaborative process.

Saturday, March 9, 7 PM at Dewey Hall, 91 Main Street, Sheffield MA, 01257. $20 general admission, seniors $15. Food and beverages available for purchase.

We are proud to participate in the Card to Culture program, a collaboration between Mass Cultural Council and the Department of Transitional Assistance, the Women, Infants & Children (WIC) Nutrition Program, and the Massachusetts Health Connector, by broadening accessibility to cultural programming. EBT, WIC, and ConnectorCare cardholders receive free admission to all performances.

LEN JENKIN is a novelist, playwright, director, and screenwriter. His novels include N JUDAH, NEW JERUSALEM, and THE SECRET LIFE OF BILLY’S UNCLE MYRON (with Emily Jenkins). Plays include DARK RIDE, PILGRIMS OF THE NIGHT, CARELESS LOVE, MY UNCLE SAM, LIMBO TALES, THE DREAM EXPRESS, and LIKE I SAY. His works for the stage have been produced throughout the United States, as well as in England, Germany, France, Denmark, and Japan. His films include BLAME IT ON THE NIGHT, WELCOME TO OBLIVION, and AMERICAN NOTES. He has received many honors and awards, including three OBIE awards for Directing and Playwriting, a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Rockefeller Foundation Award, a nomination for an EMMY Award, and four National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships. Mr. Jenkin holds a PhD in American Literature from Columbia University. He’s a Professor in the Dramatic Writing Department, Tisch School of the Arts, New York University, and lives in New York City. http://www.lenjenkin.com/index.htm

Beekeepers Theater – Mission Statement

Beekeepers Theater was founded in 2022 with the goal of presenting independent and inclusive downtown-style theater in Sheffield, showcasing top-notch performers, groundbreaking new works, and reimagined classics. Beekeepers’ mission reflects the experience and perspective of its three founders, the majority of whom identify as LGBTQ+, disabled, and/or women.
